Antiqua Bread

My mornings without coffee are over. Today the Antigua Bread Bakery Cafe opened in the 90042. Located at 5703 North Figueroa in the heart of Highland Park, this new cafe features yummy pastries, an espresso bar, and a full on breakfast, lunch, and dinner menu.

A very well designed, and thought-out cafe, air-conditioned mood lit interior, and an enclosed outdoor patio in the front that faces the busy intersection of Fig and Avenue 57. There’s no wifi (yet), but there are amply placed outlets to plug in one’s laptop computer.

As with every new cafe I try, I ordered an ice coffee and a pastry. The pastry was a unique rendition of a carrot muffin, theirs features peanuts, instead of traditional walnuts. It tasted really good, but the flavor combination had the funny effect of making me think of Pad Thai. Best of all, it was free for today’s grand opening!

As far as the coffee, they certainly get points for allotting a space on the menu for Ice Coffee, and even having a pre-chilled pitcher of it. However, the heartbreak came when I tasted it. It was flavored. You know, flavored like that stuff they add to 7-11 coffee to make it edible. This was the only let down for Antigua Bread. Next time, I’ll order an Iced Americano, when I bring my family here for breakfast tomorrow.

Highly recommended, check em out: Open 6am to 10pm and late as 11pm on Fridays and Saturdays.

Do you know if the bread is baked on-site? I went the first day and wasn’t impressed by the bakery offerings but I plan to go back and try the place again.
