Here we go again…

Avenue 50 Gold Line Crash

The 243 Gold Line train sees its last day at Marmion Way and Avenue 50 in Highland Park.

“Ten Days Accident Free”

So ten days ago there was the crash on Avenue 55. Today around 7am, an SUV for whatever reason, busted through the crossing gate and collided with the north-bound Metro Rail Gold Line train. This time, the vehicle caught fire spreading to the front of the train. Surprisingly, no one died.

So why do cars hate our transit freedom?

Highland Park is a notoriously under-regulated section of Los Angeles. This certainly has its benefits in a libertarian sort of way. (Kids get to ride bikes without helmets, aerial fireworks throughout the year, parking meters not enforced, etc..) But around here drivers operate their vehicles in manner that can simply be called: “Drive What You Feel.” That is, don’t trouble yourself with rules of the road… drive what you feel! It makes for less predictability, yet can also result in a greater amount of self-reliance, like using the sidewalk rather than the road if there is something in the way. Or as in this case, ignore the stopped traffic, crossing arm, bells, horns, and oncoming train and hurry along to get to your crappy job across town.

with all due respects on this timely comment, however, the buildings pictured are NOT at Ave 55. Please be accurate in reporting the facts

Pssst, hey Am Staff, please re-read the sentence. I didn’t say the crash in the photo was at Avenue 55, I was in fact, referring to the crash ten days prior at that location. I’ll add a caption to the photo to help alleviate any confusion.
