There Will Be Eggs
Halloween is coming. If this Friday is like the other Halloweens since the MTA Gold Line started running through Highland Park in 2003, then there will be eggs.
Highland Park is an awesome place to be for Halloween. Avenues packed with kids in costumes, lots of treats to be had, a neighborhood in its truest sense. Then there are the tricks, Halloween along the Avenues means groups of smart-alec pranksters throwing eggs at the trains. An October rite-of-passage, a tradition that I imagine goes back to 1900, when this neighborhood was being built along Santa Fe railroad. So if you see the Metro Gold Line on Friday night smeared with goo, or happen to be riding it, and hear a splat, know that you are witnessing Halloween in Highland Park. You have been warned…

hmmmm… i wonder what the cost of an egg was in 1900, escalated to today’s prices. besides, that’s good protein!!!
oh yeah, i forgot.
nice image…
thanks
There WERE eggs. Not as many as last year, but enough for every train to get an egg baptism. Last year, it got so bad the Sheriff department had to drive alongside the train and escort them through the Avenues.
Last night seemed a more mellow than last year overall. I wasn’t franticly giving out candy like last year, the trick-or-treaters just came in waves. Unfortunately, I did run out of candy like I always do. Every year I think I buy enough and still run out. (10 minuets later than last year.)
It was another classic Highland Park Halloween.
