The Front Yards of 90042

August 31, 2010

Gargole meet Dragonfly.

Going to cross the Avenue 52 Bridge into to the edge of 90042-adjacent 90031 to bring you this shining example of a local Burning Man-type front yard while that cultural festival is happening 555 miles away in Nevada this week.

The Front Yard of Lt Mustardseed: Classic Mini-Cooper, Ford pick up truck, Serracenia

This is the front yard of sculptor, Lieutenant Mustardseed (or L.T. for short). Lt has been producing large-scale art for years. Ten years ago she collaborated in creating one of Burning Man’s most celebrated Art Cars, Draka The Dragon. The giant dragonfly itself was turned into a giant water misting sculpture at the 2004 Coachella Music Festival. The dragonfly has been a favorite sight along Avenue 52 for years, and if you have ever hiked Debs Park next door and seen the swarms of dragonflies, this all makes perfect sense here.

You’re still in 90042, waltarrrrr. I used to live a few houses down. Great way to give people directions. “Go past the dragonfly…”

But I digress, Google says it’s 90031, but they’re wrong. We may be across the arroyo, but we’re still 90042 and proud of it.

Ahhh You’re Right! It’s not 90031 but 90042! Darn Google Maps!
