As a testament to Highland Park’s rich railway history, there is none other than a model railroad society named after our fine home. One of California’s most prominent model railroad clubs, The Highland Park Society of Model Railroad Engineers, Inc. was founded in April of 1948 at Al’s Hobby Shop in Highland Park.
The society was based here in Highland Park until Al’s went out of business in 1959, forcing the society to move. In 1962 the club bought a house in San Gabriel and converted it into their headquarters. The society kept their original name and have been growing ever since.
This weekend you can see their “Highland Pacific Railroad” in action at their annual Open House!
